DORCHESTER, MA — On January 20th, Boston 25 News visited Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester members at our Walter Denney Youth Center in the Harbor Point Point Community to talk to some young girls about what it means to them to see Kamala Harris, the nations first woman and woman of color sworn in as Vice President of the United States of America.
Seven year old BGCD member Isabella said, “She looks like me,” while twelve year old Fatoumata explained “I’m excited that she’s going to be in the office not only as a woman but as a Black woman, too.” Having our members be able to witness this piece of history encourages BGCD’s mission of inspiring young people to make a difference and aspire to have bright, successful futures.

Members also had the chance to witness Joe Biden being sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. In 2017, Joe Biden spoke at our annual New England Women’s Leadership Awards, explaining the importance of having Boys & Girls Clubs in communities. His speech was an inspiration to members and attendees alike, telling them that young women (and men) can do whatever they put their minds to.
